Hibiscus brew is reputed to have been popular in ancient Egypt and the Sahel region in Senegal, Gambia, and Northern Nigeria. In North Africa, it is called ‘Karkade’, while in Mexico and Central America, it is called ‘Jamaica’. Usually combined with beer in Trinidad and Tobago, it can be drunk hot or cold, with or without sugar, and has a unique fruity tang with a beautiful red colour. It is famous for its various health benefits.
